Our Commitment to Nero Zero

Evolution Marketing was proud to be the first Certified B Corp in Wisconsin in 2019 to sign onto the NetZero by 2030 pledge. As the NetZero by 2030 campaign is retiring (Sept 2022), we are excited to announce that we have joined the SME Climate Hub and will be sharing our commitments and actions to Net Zero through its tracking. As of 2022, Evolution Marketing is running on sunshine!

Each year, Evolution Marketing purchases our carbon offsets from reputable, third-party verified renewable energy projects. Since 2018, we have been operating in a carbon-neutral manner through our active participation in the Climeco EcoCommitted Partner Program.

Supporting Renewable Energy Projects

Evolution Marketing purchases our carbon offsets yearly from reputable third party verified renewable energy projects.  We have been operating in a carbon neutral manner since 2018, through our participation in the Climeco EcoCommitted Partner Program.

  • The Maple Hill Landfill is a large waste site located just outside the city of Macon, Missouri. It has been safely storing trash since 1976 on a property of approximately 430 acres, with 130 acres for waste disposal. The landfill has created a system of wells that collect landfill-generated methane gas before it's released into the atmosphere and safely burn it through a designated flare system. By capturing and destroying this gas, the Maple Hill Landfill project helps lower greenhouse gas emissions and provides cleaner air the its surrounding communities.

  • The Crow Lake wind power project is a wind farm located near Chamberlain, South Dakota. The project avoids emissions by displacing fossil fuel energy in the grid, and providing renewable wind power instead.

  • In 2022 Evolution Marketing made the strategic decision to support the Texas Capricorn Ridge Wind Project via our participation in the Carbonfree® Business Partner Program. In addition to generating renewable energy, the 662.5-megawatt Capricorn Ridge Wind Project also “adds a tax base to Sterling and Coke Counties, provides economic stimulus of landowner lease payments, and creates no air or water pollution.” The Capricorn Ridge Wind Project is capable of “generating enough electricity to power more than 220,000 homes.” Furthermore, the Capricorn Ridge employs a staff of 36 and allows local lands to remain in agricultural use.  This project is a Verified Carbon Standard Project and was verified by First Environment, Inc.

  • In 2021 Evolution Marketing made the strategic decision to support the Panama Reforestation Project - Reforesting a Lost Tropical Rainforest via our participation in the Carbonfree® Business Partner Program. The project is continuing to meet its ambitious goal of reforesting nearly 25,000 acres of abandoned cattle pastures alongside the Pacific Coast of Panama. The Project has used over 50 different native tree species. Since 2005, more than 7,000 acres have been planted with more than 1.9 million trees. In addition, nearly 500 acres are being conserved and approximately 60 full-time jobs have been created due to the Project. This project meets the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Standard (CCBS) and CarbonFix Standard (CarbonFix has since been acquired by the Gold Standard).

  • In 2020 Evolution Marketing made the strategic decision to support the Aqua Clara Water Filtration Programme based in Kenya, Africa via our participation in the Carbonfree® Business Partner Program. This project supports the distribution of the zero energy ACF water purifier that displace the use of firewood fuel traditionally used to boil water for domestic consumption. This project is also Gold Standard verified and contributes to meeting multiple Sustainable Development Goals.

  • Evolution Marketing purchased a total of 36 metric tonnes of CO2 (in the form of low impact renewables) through the Carbonfree® Partner Program in June of 2019. We are supporting a Landfill Gas Project in the Midwest, that is helping to build a resilient energy infrastructure.

The Bluff Road Landfill Gas Project (Lincoln, Nebraska) is owned and operated by the City of Lincoln. The landfill began accepting waste in October 1988. The Project includes the initial installation of 54 vertical landfill gas extraction wells, collection system piping, blower/flare station, and valves, pumps, and meters for the purpose of capturing and destroying methane.

Beyond Carbon: Addressing Plastic and Water Footprints

In addition to offsetting our carbon emissions through certified projects, Evolution Marketing is proud to expand our environmental stewardship in 2025 by addressing two other critical challenges: plastic pollution and water scarcity through ClimeCo’s new EcoCommitted™ Partner Program. This program helps small and midsize businesses easily offset their carbon and plastic footprints.

TonToTon – Ocean-Bound Plastic Recovery Projects

This project managed by TONTOTON recovers post-consumer, non-recyclable, ocean bound plastic waste in the coastal communities of Vietnam and Cambodia.

Economic & Community Co-Benefits: Under this program, workers who are primarily female receive above-average pay, personal protective equipment, and primary health insurance for those individuals who need it. The project also advocates for the proper waste management infrastructure to be built and stop plastics from leaking into the natural environment in the first place. They provide education and guidance to local governments on building sustainable waste management infrastructure.

The collected plastic goes to the INSEE Ecocycle co-processing facility and is converted into AFRM (Alternative Fuels & Raw Materials), which is being used as a replacement for coal, reducing the facility’s GHG emissions. The remaining material from the waste-to-energy process is used as raw material in cement manufacturing.

Water Restoration Certificates (WRCs) – Middle Deschutes River, Oregon

This project preserves an iconic Central Oregon river for wildlife, recreation and communities. Thanks to partnerships between the Deschutes River Conservancy and local irrigation districts, new solutions have been developed to restore over 115 cubic feet per second of flow to the Middle Deschutes during the summer months. Water leasing agreements with irrigators keeps the river flowing, fostering a healthy ecosystem for people, plants and wildlife.

Evolution Marketing’s Low Carbon Transportation Story

In 2010 Evolution Marketing completed our first carbon footprint analysis, during that process we realized that the majority of our footprint (over 75%) was coming from our vehicle. After identifying where the majority of our carbon was located within the Evolution Marketing operational system, we decided to redesign (rethink) a new process for transportation decisions. In 2010 we began to develop the outline for our sustainable transportation program, this program has evolved over the last nine years and now covers all facets of our teams' decision making in relationship to transportation.

For the first five years that Evolution Marketing was in business, we generated about 11.6 tonnes of CO2 from driving our non eco-friendly vehicle and that accounted for 75% of our total carbon footprint. In 2012 we purchased carbon offsets to cover all the miles driven. We used the data generated in our carbon foot print analysis to make a responsible business decision when it came to replacing our vehicle. In 2012, we were the first business in WI to purchase the ZERO EMISSION all-electric Nissan Leaf for our fleet. From June 2012 – Dec. 31st, 2018 we put 27,374 miles on our company Leaf. Evolution Marketing mitigated 7.32 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere. That’s the equivalent of fueling .887 homes’ energy use for one year OR the carbon sequestered from 8.6 acres of U.S. forest over a year.

Our current transportation policy is…(1) if we can attend the meeting via conference call/video call, we will participate in the meeting from our office. If an in-person meeting is required, we will (A) drive the zero-emission electric fleet vehicle to the meeting; if the meeting is more then 30 miles away we will (B) try to carpool with a colleague going to the meeting/event and if that will not work, we will as the last resort (C) drive the 42 mpg compact car to the event. In the event that (C) occurs, Evolution Marketing will offset the carbon footprint of the miles driven by the gas vehicle.
